Lib Dems Respond to Southport Tragedy

Across the region and the country, many of us are aghast at the news from Southport. We echo the sentiments expressed by the Lib Dem Campaign for Racial Equality yesterday:

"It has been horrifying to see the tragedy that has taken the lives of three young girls and left many more injured.

"The subsequent violence and rioting against the people of Southport and the Police are abhorrent. It is not representative of Britain or British values. It is being exploited by far-right groups seeking division and hatred, with no care for the people of Southport or Merseyside.

"We also deplore the disorder and racist actions that are spreading elsewhere in the UK - which is exactly what far-right groups and those who are not calling them out sadly want."

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by both the tragic event and the attempts to exploit the story.
